We had a fabulous season on the Stover Ranch in 2012. All four clients shot trophy Roosevelt bulls. The deer hunting was quite good, but the black bear hunting was exceptional. Three of the five bears shot were 7 feet or larger. We do not use dogs on these hunts, so we are not impacted by California's new regulations regarding hound hunting. With the bear population being so high, spot and stalk is a very effective method for these bears.
For the 2013 season we still have a couple of bull tags available. Also important is we now have a 60 day hunting season, compared to 19 days in previous years. If you need a Boone and Crockett, free range Roosevelt elk, the Stover Ranch may represent the best chance in the U.S. The elk hunts are on a 1x1 guided basis.
The Columbian blacktail and bear combo hunts we are offering this year would be great for hunting buddies who want a chance to harvest both species--at a reasonable price. These combination hunts will run during the California B-1 zone season, which goes from late September through late October. We will also offer black bear only hunts during the first few weeks in November. All the deer and bear hunts are on a 2x1 guided basis.
