Territory Buffalo Safaris, Australia

MUM is proud to say that we have entered into a partnership with Territory Buffalo Safaris of Australia to be their primary booking agent on their hunting trips for free range water buffalo and banteng. Brenton and Anne Hurt are wonderful hosts and most clients leave Australia as friends of the Hurts. Their banteng and buffalo camps are both in the northern part of Australia’s Northern Territory, and are both accessed via Brenton’s chartered plane. The banteng are hunted on the Cobourg Peninsula which is an hour’s flight from Darwin, while the buffalo are hunted on the east coast of Arnhem Land, about a two hour flight from Darwin. Both concessions are secured through long-term contracts with the Aboriginal council and both are hundreds of thousands of acres in size.

The Hurt’s live in Darwin and most clients use this small city as their arrival and departure site. Territory Buffalo Safaris is one of only two licensed outfitters for hunting free-ranging banteng in all of Australia. These bovine were originally from Bali, but have been exterminated from their native land. The British brought the banteng and buffalo to the Northern Territories when they were colonizing the country around 1840. The British settlement floundered, but the buffalo and banteng flourished.

While with the Hurts, additional species that can be added include scrub bull (feral cattle), wild pig, and sambar deer. Gordy spent ten days with Territory Buffalo Safaris in late June/early July as photographer for one of Brenton’s clients, Dick May of Hawaii. It was imperative that Gordy learned as much about the logistics of the hunt as well as the overall quality of the hunting operation. He was very impressed with the complete experience. The hunting was excellent, the lodging was quite comfortable, transportation was a snap, and Brenton and Anne’s attention to details were commendable. Dick shot a trophy water buffalo and banteng, and got in a lot of fishing and bird watching as well.

We are able to book trips for Territory Buffalo Safaris for 2008, 2009, and beyond. For more information and prices of single species and combination trips, please send along an email or call our toll free number 800-557-7087.
