Dye Creek

Black-tailed Deer, Wild Pigs, Bird Hunts

We are excited to announce the wild pig population on the Preserve has finally rebounded enough that we can offer some quality guided pig hunt. So far we have taken several hunters and they have all tagged their first day! We are booking weekend hunts from now until the end of May for two or four hunters. These guided trips are two hunters per guide.

We had our finest black-tailed deer hunting in recent memory. Not only were a high number of bucks harvested (64 in total), but the quality of animals taken was also encouraging. We had some early weather and an abundant acorn crop. The deer counts conducted by the California Dept. of Fish and Game after the season also included great news. The buck to doe ratios and the fawn to doe ratios were both significantly higher than previous years. These indications point to a larger and healthier Lasses Tehama herd in the future. James Hower of the Apperson Unit won the Grant Malcomson Big Buck Award, so his hunt this year is on us. Congratulations Jimmy!

The bird hunting at Dye Creek has improved over the last few years. The Rio Grande turkeys have also turned around. The September opener for the mourning dove hunting went well, the California quail hunters should expect one of their finest seasons, and the waterfowl hunters have all their ponds full of water for the opener. The turkey hunts are fully guided affairs while the other bird programs on done on an unguided basis. We currently have 2008 openings for the dove opener in September. Depending on the weather conditions, there can be some fast and furious shooting for these challenging birds. Renting out the Dye Creek Lodge to families and small functions has become quite popular. Some of the holiday dates are already booked for 2008, but there are plenty of openings throughout the year if you want a great getaway or a unique setting for a meeting, a special party or wedding. If you fish on the Sacramento River, the lodge is a great place to stay.

The 2008 Dye Creek Barbecue

Our annual Dye Creek Barbecue is slated for Saturday, May 3rd. All clients who have hunted with us within the last year or live within a couple hours of the ranch are invited to attend.

Please RSVP for this great event at (209) 772.7299. We'll rotisserie a whole pig with all the fixings, plus bass fishing, a hike up Dye Creek Canyon, raffle items, and more. Don't miss out! It’s also a good time for the deer members to get together and have a work party at their cabins.
