This buck holds a special place in my heart. According to our records, this was the first 200"+ buck that we took on Santa Rosa Island. 1998 was the year. So we went nearly 20 years of HARD hunting before we got a buck of this quality. Stop and think about that. Our quality went up with increased hunting! That flies in the face of what many people would think of a trophy production system. But in this case, removing numbers by harvest was a big component to our program.
Tom came out with his son Mike. They both shot bucks and Roosevelt bulls. This buck has lots of nontypical points, and a cool drop tine above his right ear. We thought we had the right recipe for making a better trophy program, but we never knew that it would become as good as it became for years in the future. With Tom's buck we were just starting....
