#50 JIM COFFRINI Top 100 Santa Rosa Island Mule Deer Bucks

This was Jim's first trip to the Island. He came two more times after this buck. Can't blame him for wanting to come back. Of his other bucks, one is yet to appear in the Top 100 and one didn't make it. Jim was paired with Jack Elkins on this hunt (#72). This is another buck that has weak G-1's especially on his right side. This buck reminds us alot of Jeff Watts 6x6 that came in at #70. When Jim shot this buck, it fell so forcefully that it hurt its velvet on the bush lupine. I'll always remember the line of bucks that we got into during this hunt. There was something like 25-30 bucks on a ridge at Carrington, and the Pacific Ocean was the backdrop. Hard to believe, but this buck was not the biggest one in the herd! This buck was definitely the largest bodied buck I ever witnessed out there. It was a true pig, going well over 300 pounds. Because of that, he was one of the last bucks running up that mountain. Jim, ever the good sportsman, gave the herd a fair chance to get away, but this huge buck just didn't run as fast as some of the other muleys. Bad luck for the buck, good luck for Jim!
