#20 TOM ARTHUR Top 100 Santa Rosa Island Mule Deer Bucks

#20 TOM ARTHUR Top 100 Santa Rosa Island Mule Deer Bucks

Tom Arthur only came to Santa Rosa Island once, but he made his time there valuable. Wayne guided Tom, and they hit it off incredibly right from the start. Two seasoned warriors who ended up showing up all the young studs. No question they enjoyed that role. This buck was shot the same day that Ray Westall shot #23. When these two bucks were side by side that night all of us just knew that Ray's buck was bigger than Tom's. We all correctly thought that Ray's buck was a 215+ buck/ We were also in concensus that this buck of Tom's was probably about a 210 buck. Wrong! The reasoning was that Ray's inside width was pretty short. Think it was 19" or 20" while Ray's was well into the mid to high 20"s. Both had neat nontypicals. It turned out that Ray's just had better scoring atypicals. He is also quite tall, which helps length measurements on G2's, 3's and 4's.

Every year at the Safari Club Show Tom comes by our booth and says hello. He always tells us how his previous year's hunt had gone. Invariably he asks if we have found some place to shoot really big mule deer bucks. We inform him that we are always looking. Maybe some day...
