#13 MIKE DAVIS Top 100 Santa Rosa Island Mule Deer Bucks
#13 MIKE DAVIS Top 100 Santa Rosa Island Mule Deer Bucks Mike shot this buck a mere day later than Trent Kelley shot #14. That's pretty crazy-- two 224+ bucks within a span of 24 hours. 2010 was a wild year, indeed. This must have been Mark Michealis' most successful guiding experience. Not only did he guide on this buck, but also Matt Peters (#64). As they say, even a blind pig finds an acorn once in awhile! Seriously, Mark is a great guide. In fact, he still guides for us

#32 JORGE GUTIERREZ Santa Rosa Island Top 100 Mule Deer Bucks
#32 JORGE GUTIERREZ Santa Rosa Island Top 100 Mule Deer Bucks For the width aficionados, what do you think about this one? His outside with of 36.25" is impressive. What's more imopressive? His inside width of his beam, that's what. His inside width is 36.125" Not often you get the widest point on a buck's beam. It was the best inside width of any buck taken on the Island. The widest buck ever shot on the Island was shot on this same hunt, by Jorge's cousin, and harvested 2

#55 JOHN MCPHIE Top 100 Santa Rosa Island Mule Deer Bucks
#55 JOHN MCPHIE John was a member of the Brasher contingency. He came on this hunt with his two of his brothers-in-law Rob Brasher (#90 from 2006) and Jeff Brasher (#61, from this same hunt) Notice the swath of blood under his right eye. Since this was John's first mule deer buck (crazy!), I felt it was incumbent to place that badge of honor on him. I had cut the tongue out for photography purposes, and while he wasn't paying attention, got him with the tongue. Makes for a gr

#72 Santa Rosa Top 100 Mule Deer Buck- Jack Elkins
#72 JACK ELKINS. This buck has about everything you could want. Plenty of junk, great eyeguards, terrific width- the whole package. Jack passed up a buck a couple hours earlier, and I wasn't real happy with his turndown. The buck he passed ended up scoring better than this (as I knew it would), but it wasn't 30" And Jack only wanted 30+" bucks. Therefore he stuck to his guns, and passed on a 214 buck, and shot this one instead. That's a pretty good day of hunting, if you ask

#73 Santa Rosa Island Top 100 Mule Deer Buck--Jeff Jones
#73 JEFF JONES The first 210 buck of the Top 100. This buck is all about typical tine length! Jeff's buck has one 5" nontypical, but other than that, this is a 205" typical. He doesn't even have much for eyeguards. This buck had been spotted the week before, but weaseled himself out of the situation. Not so for the team of Guide Brian Sheehy and Jeff. This kind of overall tine length was really unusual on SRI. This is the only Top 100 buck that Brian guided on. Then again, B

#74 Santa Rosa Island Mule Deer Buck-- Wade Gastin
#74 WADE GASTIN Now that is a what a happy hunter looks like! This 8x5 30" buck would make every avid mule deer hunter esctatic. Another monster from the 2010 season. October was often called the dog days of mule deer hunting on SRI. The rut hadn't showed up yet, but by then quite a few bucks had been harvested, so they were definitely wary. Good fortune for Wade though. Dry Canyon, where this buck was shot, was not known for producing lots of big bucks. What Dry Canyon did

#83 Santa Rosa Island Mule Deer Buck-- Greg Sutton
GREG SUTTON- 209 SCI In 2005, Greg Sutton came out to the Island with his hunting partner Steve Daniels. While this was Greg's only hunt (maybe he couldn't imagine improving on this buck?), Steve came out in 2010 with his son and shot an even bigger buck than Greg's (Steve's buck will arrive at #18). On this particular hunt, the guide Andrew Atkins, found this buck and Steve's nontypical on the same day in the same canyon. If my memory serves me right, the wind was a major im
